Exciting Announcement: Presentation at 3rd Annual STEM Faculty Institute

I am thrilled to share our latest presentation at the esteemed 3rd Annual STEM Faculty Institute. The keynote «Empowering STEM Through Inclusive Grants and Engagement: A Path Forward», was an honor to participate in this event (Leon, 2024).

Abstract:

Objective: This keynote intends to provide STEM faculty and researchers with a comprehensive understanding of inclusive grant opportunities and effective grant-writing techniques. It aims to empower participants with strategies to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education, particularly focusing on engaging underrepresented groups such as Latinx and Spanish-speaking students. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to leverage grant funding and implement initiatives that foster broader participation and inclusivity in STEM fields.

Guiding questions

  • Why is it imperative for educators and researchers to prioritize diversity and inclusion in STEM initiatives, and how can targeted grant opportunities and engagement practices serve as catalysts for meaningful change in this regard?
  • How can educators and researchers navigate the complex landscape of federal grants to secure funding for STEM initiatives?
  • What specific methods and approaches can be employed to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups, such as Latinx and Spanish-speaking students, in STEM research and learning opportunities?
